Weekly Collection Overview

Residential trash collection in Matawan is provided weekly by Jersey Specialized Hauling. To ensure your items are collected, please have your containers at the curb by 7:00 AM on your designated collection day.

The “Quick-Reference” Recycling Guide

Matawan utilizes a “Silo” recycling system to ensure high-quality processing. Do not mix paper and cardboard with bottles and cans. Plastic bags are strictly prohibited in all recycling containers.

Type A: Commingled (Bottles & Cans)

Glass: Food and beverage bottles and jars (rinse, remove lids).
Metal: Aluminum, tin, and bi-metal cans.
Plastic: Only #1, #2, and #5 containers (e.g., water bottles, milk jugs, detergent).

Type B: Mixed Paper & Cardboard

Cardboard: Corrugated boxes (must be flattened).
Paper: Magazines, junk mail, office paper, and softcover books.
Newspaper: Including all inserts.
Note: Do not include pizza boxes, shredded paper, or waxed cardboard

Holiday & Delay Schedule

If your collection day falls on one of the following holidays in 2026 or 2027, trash collection is suspended, and service will resume on the next business day.

Note: If collection is cancelled due to poor weather conditions, your trash will also be picked up the next
business day.

Christmas Tree Pickup

Trees are collected curbside during January and February only. Please remove all tinsel, lights, and stands. Trees placed curbside after February must follow Yard Waste guidelines.

You’d think spending over 1k with a business for a dumpster rental the customer service would at the very least be informative. They were rude from start to finish. Lacked communication, picked up before we were done project-didn’t even ask if we were finished or wanted to extend. More expensive than their comps and very rude. Wouldn’t recommend.

Based on a recommendation by a neighbor, I rented a dumpster from Jersey Specialized Hauling a couple of weeks ago when I was having poison ivy removed from my back yard. The sales staff were very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all my questions. When the dumpster arrived my wife and I were impressed by how clean it looked. And it smelled as clean as it looked!  I showed my son, who lives in Virginia, a photo and without any prompting from me he also commented about how clean it looked. I had the dumpster for almost a week, and it was removed in as timely a fashion as it was delivered. In other words, the whole experience went off without a hitch. I give Jersey Specialized Hauling my most enthusiastic recommendation, and I plan to use them again in a future cleanup.
